Dentures, often called false teeth, may be the best solution to replace lots of missing teeth in one go.

Technology and materials have advanced over the last few years, and we offer more than traditional plastic dentures.

Dentures can be made so they look like your natural teeth, in terms of colour, shape and the way they are set up. They can also help support the soft tissues of the face and restore your appearance, where the loss of teeth has resulted in the loss of volume in your cheeks and face.

Losing teeth and having gaps in your mouth can make it very difficult for you to speak, smile and eat with confidence and comfort. There are several different ways in which we can replace lost teeth. The dentists, both in the practice and within the wider team, can help you find the best solution for you and your mouth, from dentures and bridges to implants.

Frequently asked questions

Will dentures fall out when I speak or eat?

Not necessarily. Dentures can often work comfortably and discreetly and may well not move at all. Sometimes, however, if you have lost many teeth and the bones in your jaw have shrunk right back, it’s difficult to get dentures to sit in one place without moving when you eat and speak. In such cases, we may recommend the use of a denture ‘glue’ or suggest an alternate material for the denture to be made out of, or even implants to help support them.

Can I have them on the NHS?

Yes, if you need dentures, they are available on the NHS. We mostly offer dentures made of traditional plastic, or acrylic, on the NHS. We do have options available in terms of materials if you want them to be stronger, look more natural and stay more reliable. If you upgrade to a stronger or more cosmetic type of denture, this will be available for a private fee.

I have a denture, but I can’t get on with it.

Let the dentist have a look – they may be able to offer you an alternative type of solution or even a new denture, better designed to be more stable, if possible.
